Christmas closing in

Well its Christmas week, so I painted up a Christmas thingy. oh yes indeed. Here it is, with a little speed paint non christmassy more me'ish thing at the end for good measure.

Ok yes, the blog update schedule is gone out the window, as I ultimately knew it would.. Can't think of anything worth blogging on most days, so I think I'l start just putting up lots of art and a whole lot less words, pesky things that they are..

On the topic of putting art up though, I finally got a website up! Its still got a few tweaks left to do, and decisions on what I'm putting up/taking down, image wise. But go have a look anyway and tell me if I've missed something pivotal to its success >.<

And to round off this post, here's the stages of my first real oil painting.
Its my a portrait of my dad, and I'm pretty happy with it, learned loads along the way, and freaked out a fair bit in the early stages, as things were turning out a whole lot messier than I had anticipated.. All in all though, I enjoyed the experience and I think I'll pursue Oil painting more in the future. Yup.

Akira, Silent Hill, and my father in oil.

Well, second post and already behind on what I hoped to be weekly updates. But what are you gonna do. Anyway, this past week has been fairly interesting. To start I found out that the live action Akira movie which will be inevitably disgraceful, just got a little worse. The producers have offered the 'lead' role -so kaneda or tetsuo- to the dancing child face that is Zac Efron! and that it will be a pg-13 affair, oh joy. It'll be a musical yet, mark my words.
Following this, I discovered my beloved Silent hill series is to have a new movie addition, in 3d no less. Oh yes the dreaded 3d. Now the original silent hill movie is no gem, but it wasn't too embarrassing. I just cant help but wonder if having pyramid head toss skinless corpses at us in dazzling 3d gore is straying from the subtle eerie atmospheric horror the series started out with.. But who am I to object to some hollywood gents beating the last few dimes out of once reputable horror franchise. Bastards.

Did that count as art talk? I dunno. Better toss in some info about my upcoming foray into oil painting.
Yeah, so I recently accepted a commission from my aunt to paint a portrait of my dad in oils for Christmas. I've tried saying I'd do it for free, but she's one of those pesky people who want to pay for their services. But now that she's paying me I'm nervous about it, as I've never used oil paints before and I've no idea what to expect, but I think I've worked out what I'm doing and will be starting post haste. Think I'll takes pics through the process and if all goes well I'll have a lovely addition to the old blog here, and if all goes badly this is the last you'll ever hear of it.

Hello hello, new blog ahoy. Just warming up the space here ahead of the new website/portfolio thing I'll be launching next week sometime. But enough about my gut wrenchingly awesome new website that's just around the corner. I should probably do that thing everyone seems to do on their first blog post, aka a listing out of all the stuff I intend to put up here, in the off chance anyone could be shocked by the content of my dull posts. Alright then, here goes.

Primarily I'll be tossing up sketches and studies. Although I'll dabble in some tutorial and process shots. Maybe some inspirational stuff too. Not to mention the obligatory bitching and moaning about the day to day workings of my life in general. Oh yes indeed, its going to be a rollercoaster ride of... some description.

Feel free to follow the blog as I intend to be active, and if you want to vastly exaggerate the quality of my paintings to anyone who will listen, why that'd be great, as I really would like to be famous at some point in my life. So, yeah.
